Am./Can. CH Hawkwind's Like A Virgin BISS
Madonna was the third pick out of her litter, and the one I
really tried to
let go of. I just did NOT want to keep 3 out of litter of 7! She almost went
to 2 very good homes, but something always happened! Voted most
cuddly by me,
she really had some qualities I wanted to keep, so she stayed.
Her name comes from her mother's trip to Canada. In a breeding I figure
ultimately cost about $4,000, the stud I flew in for Page was quite enamored
of her. Page, though, decided she was not ready until AFTER I had to leave,
on Christmas Eve. Evidently Christmas was special enough for Page to
entertain her devoted mate. Like A Virgin refers to how Page acted those
last days when we all thought she should be ready to breed, but she had her
own ideas
As soon as I left, she bred for 10 days straight.
In Madonna's first show, a bare 6 months old, the judges loved her, asking me
if I knew how good a dog she was. Then a couple weeks later a very respected
judge, Annella Cooper from Alaska, awarded her Best Puppy in Futurity at the 2000 national. Futurity is a
competition for 'the best of the best,' and is a very big honor. That
essentially means she beat all the puppies competing up to a year old at that
time....in the country.
She is only shown rarely, and in part of her early career she was selected
over specialty winners for Best of Breed. The judge's comment was, "Now,
THIS is what your breed really needs."

At the 2001 Denver SCA National Specialty, the biggest Sammie dog show of the year, she was Best of Winners, defeating an entry of 167 bitches, and ultimately 138 males. She also garnered us the prestige of the Best Bred By ribbon. By basically defeating the best of the best at the national, she earned her place in Samoyed history.
Madonna finished her AKC championship with a 2nd 5 point major at Chicagoland, June 15, 2002 under another judge renowned for knowledge of arctic dogs.

In May 2003 we took her out to special a little .... In one month she got into the top 20 both Breed and All Breed and won her first specialty: Chicagoland under the top breeder in Samoyeds, Lynette Blue. What an honor! Her daughter, Ginger, went Best Opposite in Sweeps as well!
In June 2006 the younger kids were busy or out of coat, so we entered Madonna who went Best of Breed at the Chicagoland Samoyed Specialty as a 6 year old! Quality lasts.
Ginger, Hawkwind's Dance On Air, runs on the Chatanika sled team with her sire, Bailey, but has also garnered a Best in Sweeps we are very proud of under respected breeder judge Barbara Zubrickas. She was handled by her owner Kim Katanik.
Pictured here is a sight you may rarely see, girls who love each other so much they share everything together. Indigo (right) was not happy until she could help Madonna (left) with her litter duties! Mostly, Madonna ate and fed them and Indigo was a doting nursemaid!

Here is Hawkwind's Zargun Pot O Gold, followed by Hawkwind's Lucca de la Lucca, both Ginger's brothers.

And Hawkwind's Justify My Love, Isis, who lives in Utah.

Here is Hawkwind's Wild Orchid, aka Garbo.

At the 2003 SCA National in Riverside, CA Madonna won an Award of Merit under judge Judith Goodin. Now with multiple group placements, and several Specialty BOS, ala her mother Page, Madonna is a smiling example of love!

Madonna only gets better and better. Bred twice, we
have a special daughter, Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna, out of sire Hawkwind's
Alabaster Carrara.
Here is our cherished Aster at 2 weeks old! She placed in her classes at
SCA 2005.

In addition to a stellar show career, Madonna stands to make a very solid contribution to Hawkwind through her puppies, which also exhibit the beauty of the breed, along with sound structure and type of the mother. Retired from breeding, Madonna gets to do what she enjoys most and that is be a showgirl! She adores puppies, hers or anyones! Here are some candids of her sons Hawkwind's Mont Blanc and Hawkwind's Snow Druid as puppies.

Madonna's son, now CH Hawkwind's Mont Blanc BISS, was Grand Futurity Winner in 2005 under breeder judge Heidi Nieman. He won his Sweeps class, and was Reserve Winners Dog at SCA National 2005 in Kentucky. He won a group placement from the classes in one of his first time in the ring, as well as Best of Breed at Samoyed Club of Mpls./St. Paul in 2006 under Siberian breeder judge Alice Watts.
