Hawkwind's Tourmaline

(CH Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara X  Hawkwind's Egyptian Blue Topaz)

"Tourmali"

Arizona

Tourmali was a singleton puppy. Like many single litters, she was born by c-section. That is because there is not enough of the hormone released to start labor.

On August 1, 2006 it was obvious she was going to need help to be born. She had a really hard start, and was on oxygen the first few hours.

Then her mom's milk didn't come in. Not realizing it at first, Tourmali worked and worked and got nothing. Bottle feeding and up with her for most of 5 days straight, it became apparent that this puppy wanted to live.... Her life drive was incredibly strong. (A thank you to Kay for coaching me through some of the more difficult parts of those days and nights.)

So a tough start. Which then got tougher! Injured at 2 1/2 weeks by a larger sam puppy, and a few vet visits and a consult with a leading ortho-vet, a round of physical therapy was ordered. Swimming at 3 weeks old! Verdict was it would be time before we could know how she'd recover from the injury. The vet specialist said the xrays showed her hips were well set in their sockets and the grooves in her legs were perfect, so nothing physically or genetically wrong. Swimming, exercises ... then miraculously one day she was fine. Just fine.

A thank you to Tashi for all the reiki healing and support! (We Suggest has her info for remote energy healing.)

At 9 weeks old she ran beautifully. At 11 weeks, when these pictures were taken, she was flawless. We still do massage and some therapy to equalize the muscle development, but in the movement department she has few peers. We are delighted in her strength. Nothing seems to get her down. We've never had a puppy had such focus!

Can you imagine a puppy who ALWAYS comes when they are called? Who constantly looks straight into your soul looking for what is next on the great gameboard of life? A tail that wags constantly, a heart that leaps to play at any moment?

We have had some smart sammies before, but this one is in a whole other league ....

Ah. Structure. A beautiful body. Tuck up, a strong driving rear and gorgeous shoulders. Almost exactly like her mom for movement ... that soft, effortless stride. Both her parents have almost flawless rears. Tourmali's rear is dominant and linebred. Absolute precision, just like her great grandma... and her great, great granddam.

Both of her parents have her beautiful shoulder. Linebred strength.

What more? An absolutely stunning upper arm. But it is her brain that is so intriguing.

Her future is undecided, but the present is SO much fun!

Tourmaline on her way to her new home!

Stone information. We study stones and legends to come up with a match for a particular litter or puppy. This puppy was named by one of her healers, Tashi.

Tourmaline is derived from a Singhalese expression "tura mali," which translates to stone of mixed color. We're still undecided on her final name, which might include the famous Paraiba Tourmaline.*

Tournalines are known by alchemists for their pyroelectric qualities, the ability to transmit electricity when heated. Because of the static electricity they can build up, they were always often thought of as magic stones. The electric charge is thought to break through blockages and bring chaos to calm and clarity.

By legend the clarity coming from Tourmaline is to help us move beyond limited ways of thinking and to embrace a greatly expanded concept of reality.

Ancient Egyptian legend says Tourmalines moved from the heart of the earth to the sun, and gathered to them all the colors of the rainbow. Tourmaline comes in almost every color, and can be more than one color, such as Watermelon Tourmalines in pinks and greens.

Tourmaline legend states they bring stability and permanence to love and friendship.

*Paraiba Tourmaline.

Paraiba Tourmalines exist because of one man's belief of a gemstone that was something completely different in the hills around Paraiba, Brazil. Searching for years, in 1989 the earth gave up her first Paraiba Tourmalines, stones with an almost supernatural luminosity, as if the light comes from within. Words like neon and electric and glowing are used to describe them.

Have you ever looked at the gorgeous turquoise of the Caribbean sea and wanted to capture that color? There is only one natural gem that can: A Paraiba Tourmaline.

This single gem quality vein of Paraiba Tourmaline was eventually mined, exhibiting peacock colors of blue, a turquoise never seen in stones, and greens. They have an almost electric presence. The color comes from copper, and sometimes manganese. Sometimes they are called copper bearing, or cuprian, tourmalines. Then studies by the German Foundation for Gemstone Research found them to contain a very high amount of gold. Paraiba tourmalines contain 8.6 parts per million, where the average gold content of the earth's crust is 0.007 parts per million. Higher gold content creates the green color

Paraiba tourmaline had been laboriously mined by hand for 10 years, but in 1999 a new vein of magnificent quality was found with stones up to 20 carats. Then a vein was discovered in Nigeria, but not with quite the intensity of the Brazilian stones, so sell for a tenth of their price. A third copper area was found in Mozambique and has yielded stones over 50 carats. Stones from all 3 areas are now uniformly called Paraiba, and identified with their place of origin.

Tourmali has no littermates. She is one of a kind.
