Chi's owner asked for a working dog. She said that just once in her life sha wanted a really well bred dog. While very successful with rescues, often with hip dysplasia.
A tall order. A dog who could do it all.
She wanted a dog who could do agility, and anything asked of him. I began looking for the right puppy. Chi was the green boy in his litter, and constantly had something on his mind....active, have to go somewhere....things to do things to do.
I had him evaluated for drive, and we played games to access food drive and ability to overcome obstacles. On and on, this dog excelled. If he understood what was asked, he didn't stop.
He learned weaves the first day he was home. First time on a sled....he put his head down and went 5 miles. At the SCA National 2004 he entered the herding ring. The judge was so impressed she kept calling the owner at home...."You have to trial with this dog!"
Chi loves agility. His owner took him to a structure clinic and the evaluator told her Chi had the best front end she'd ever seen on a dog. Jen said, "You mean on a samoyed?"
The reply was, "No. On a DOG."
Oh. Chi does conformation, too. One major under Jon Cole at Purina Farms as a young dog, and a second specialty major at Heart of America....just a few points from finishing his AKC championship. He'll join his all champion littermates.
Excellent hips, from a litter of 2 OFA Goods and 2 OFA Excellents....all eyes clear....just doing everything right.
Chi grew up with a couple rescue samoyeds. And a pom named Bucky who THINKS he is a samoyed. We'd like to thank Merlin, who virtually had no hips, and Nala, who I think is the most titled rescue in Samoyedom, for their loving raising of Chi. And, of course, Bucky! To see Chi lie on the floor and let Bucky jump all over him is pure joy!

Chi's greatest tribute to Nala happened as she left us for the rainbow bridge. Chi finished his WS running solo on a sled with his owner...mile after mile working out his grief. That run finished the WS title for him.
Chi was a teenager once, but a tolerant adolescent! Shown here with Madeleine.
But he was a pretty good looking teenager...here's a closeup at about 18 months.
