Settling in for a Christmas weekend! Puppies all over the front room rug after each was held until they fell asleep. First tastes of 'non Mom' food was only a marginal hit. Yogurt may not be 'quite' as good as Mommie's milk!

Voted most opinionated about this was purple aka. Mr. Determination, who really didn't like his toes cut either....and Red girl who just talked back pretty much continually! Silver and Pink are the larger puppies with lots of bone. Silver was born twice the size of everyone...and STILL IS.

Happy Birthday! To Topaz & Ben babies! Topaz is doing great now, but it's been a rough day! We have 4 boys and 2 girls. Blue boy started things out at  10:45 AM.  Green boy was here at 12:20. Then we had a girl and a boy. Then I saw some green, which means stress to the babies. At that point I went into the vet, and we got one girl out there. Very pretty thing, that ICY white coat you get sometimes. That left one boy. Xray said he was WAY up in the rib cage section. A shot of Oxytocin....and some time and he still wasn't very far down on the second xray. So we ultrasounded to be sure he was alive. Heart was strong. (Our hearts are VERY strong!) But he was probably curled in a top section of the uterus, which was pretty flaccid as all the others were gone. If we waited longer he'd have died. So I elected to do a c section to get him. (My vet bill for that puppy....about $2500. He would not have made it if we did not do this surgery.) I laugh about people who wonder why puppies cost what they do. The part to do this breeding was a surgical, and SO far we have $4500 into this litter...but for now we enjoy puppy cuddles and some time off work to raise these beautiful kids!

But they are alive and healthy, if smaller than I'm used to! Hug your kids. These smiling dogs are so very, very precious. And there are 6 more in the world tonight.

Topaz puppies are just starting to 'move back.' I expect puppies to come in the next 48 hours. We're still trying to entice her to eat anything interesting. (Premier has a new product called Liver Biscotti...followed by some pork roast, some venison sausage, etc.)

Garnet pulls to the end, over 900 lbs! Quite a lot for a baby girl! Garnet is an Aster & Lightning daughter: Hawkwind's Silver Star Garnet.  She won first place in her weight division! Cobalt and Sasha placed as well! ALL went to the full pull weight!

As the national winds down, our specials make cuts, but in to the final cuts is CH Hawkwind's Emerald Jade. This was really her national with her daughter, Alaska, winning a placement from the Jade litter, and so many of her Emerald kids doing so well!

The girls day! Annika, Hawkwind's Emerald Storm wins her class! Another huge win for a baby girl! That means that the Emerald litter won both the 9-12 classes they competed in!

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of CH Charisma-Omni Front Page News BISS. Page gave us champions, multi specialty winning bitches, and a ton of love. She was Best Brood Bitch 2003, all done with VERY few children. Usually those sorts of awards go to animals with many offspring. Page achieved that award on the quality of 3 of her daughters.

There will never be another "Page."

We got word that a puppy reservation is being declined due to a broken ankle. It is true that it's hard to handle a baby then! We wish you healing, but am happy that Paavo has a new friend! Meet "Boo" who was named after the boo boo of the broken ankle. Really looks like a great friendship!

Happy New Year from Hawkwind! New puppy pictures coming soon on the Current LItter page. This is Aster's purple girl just as a storm was rolling in.  Today, Jan 15, we'll have to shovel, which takes most of the day as we got 7 inches last night and this morning!

Back home on puppy watch Nancy and I are teaching  Aster's puppies to eat. They can do that well! Gold boy didn't really get enough and tried to nurse on Nancy's nose....and then promptly pottied on the front of her shirt! Puppy fun!
