Nikko gives his mom a thrill by going Best of Breed over specials (including BISS!) for his first championship points!  Nikko is Hawkwind's Snowflake Obsidian. His owner, Lynn, is tickled!

Back home on puppy watch Nancy and I are teaching  Aster's puppies to eat. They can do that well! Gold boy didn't really get enough and tried to nurse on Nancy's nose....and then promptly pottied on the front of her shirt! Puppy fun!

Aster's kids go to visit friends....and mistake someone's chin for a nipple. They pull HARD enough to leave marks! While we all had a laugh, it is some terrific suction those baby mouths are capable of!

Fun day at the dog show as Rumor, Hawkwind's Rumor of Kyanite, learns the ropes, while her aunt, Hawkwind Rocks the Gene Pool goes WB/BOW/Best of Breed! Allele looked lovely as always!

On the homefront we're waiting for Aster's puppies. Preliminary count is 8, which is a lot for a young sammie girl! This litter is the Star Garnet litter, which is a stone mined in Idaho, where the babies were conceived. Star Garnets display asterism, showing a four-rayed star in reflected light. I like to think of them as having been shot by lightning.

Garnet has been dubbed the gem of faith, constancy and truth.

We expect these beautiful garnets to arrive soon, perhaps Monday or Tuesday.

Allele (Hawkwind Rocks the Gene Pool) sails to her first major out of the Open Class at Sioux Empire Kennel Club. Glorious weekend for a dog show, and a really nice 4 point major on a lovely girl!

Nikko (Hawkwind's Snowflake Obsidian) stepped into the ring, gaining nice comments from both judges. He won the open class on Sunday, and is getting ready for his own run at his championship very soon! He is very nice in all directions and totally FLOATS around the ring!

We're very proud to announce the 3rd place Brood Bitch finish for 2005 awarded to CH Seamist's Amethyst of Hawkwind. She is everything a great bitch is supposed to be!  Thanks to all the kids who made that record possible. Chi, Onyx, Jade, Siku, mostly!

CH Wolf River's Raptor Ridge won 3rd place Stud Dog, with the above kids plus Topaz and Cobalt and Ariel wins.

Many of these sorts of wins are achieved by breeding lots of dogs.  We have these records with very few and VERY high quality samoyeds! We treasure these awards and the quality samoyeds that contribute to such a record!

News from Nebraska is that Rocco (CH Hawkwind's Morroccan Marble) was Best of Breed both days, and a Group 4 on Saturday! Congratulations to owner Steve Kuehn!

Our beautiful Aster was Winners Bitch/Best of Winners/Best Bred By and on to a Group 2 today. The judge took us aside to comment on what a lovely bitch she was...

Every indication is that she is pregnant so will not be shown after this weekend.

The national!! Post Falls, Idaho. At 1400 miles from home we arrived at the herding events. Electra surprised us by really taking to the sheep!

News from Minnesota is that Allele was Best of Winners back home for more points! Allele's name is Hawkwind Rocks the Gene Pool. Congrats! Again!

Hawkwind's Dreams of Malachite NA NAJ HCT-S TDI HT WS "Chi" got a leg on his AKC herding title...and did it in 2 1/2 minutes instead of the allowed 10 minutes! Way to go, Chi!

Aster's in season so we're heading for Idaho! Rendezvous with Lightning is coming up and we expect puppies just before Thanksgiving. For reservations on this litter, please call and make sure I have your deposit.  More info on the Current litter page.

I think these puppies are going to excel in type, temperament and movement and be another solid step forward. Both sides of these puppie's pedigree are solid for strong performers and exceptionally intelligent samoyeds. Such beautiful dogs!

Obviously clearances are done. Both Aster and Summit got OFA Good's. We expect them to clear, of course.  Our kennel has a very solid health record. No cataracts or HD to date. We are VERY selective in what animals we use.

Congrats to Rocco on a couple Best of Breed wins lately.  Sorry we haven't been there to cheer you on!

We're planning the next breeding now. Tentatively it's Aster (Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna), sister of the 2005 Grand Futurity winner and RWD CH. Hawkwind's Mont Blanc. She'll be bred to this dog:

We're just debating whether to do this Aster breeding first, or one with Summit. We're just waiting for OFA to clear these kids for hips and elbows now. CERF's are already done and the entire litter cleared for folds as babies, and now at 2 years.

We took Topaz out and she went WB on Friday. But she's been bred now and we do think she's pregnant, so we decided to pull her by Sunday. It was a beautiful weekend for showing dogs!

A one day trip to the Chicagoland Specialty. Hot, humid....blech. Topaz won a tough open class and Aster won Bred by Exhibitor Bitch. But Madonna came into the breed ring to show the children how it's done....and walked off with Best in Specialty Show!

 They know when they've done something good. She thought it all was too short though, and kept tossing her head and wagging her tail for pictures, etc. I had to laugh....enough already, you already won it all!

Oh...we used that punch bowl as a water bowl for her....Don't you think she should be drinking only out of crystal bowls?

Same results as yesterday really. But Taylor took Amber into the ring for the first time, to the applause of all of us! They both did a great job! Amber is Hawkwind's Golden Amber Onyx, out of Onyx and Rimrock.  Scroll down to the Easter photo of the two of them!

We stayed for the puppy match. BOB was 3 month old Hawkwind's Rumor of Kyanite! She went on to an impressive Group 2! Congrats to owner Kimberly Ullrich!

Chi's puppies are going to homes...we have one boy available yet! Looking for the perfect home for him...More info on the current litter page! These are BEAUTIFUL kids! Here's the one available, but this pic is maybe a couple weeks ago.

This little boy was the 'look at me!' puppy out of the litter. I'd like to find a good working home for him. He is a VERY smart puppy, active, loving and a mind of his own! Not a couch potato! Wish we could bottle this sort of charisma!!

Easter morning....This is why I have the passion to take these dogs as they were in antiquity into the future. That means carefully keeping the oldest blood, the temperament, and the best genetics possible in as sound a body and mind as can be achieved. FAR too many people are trying to change the breed into something of their design....not the original classic samoyed.

Baby yearling Amber (Hawkwind's Golden Amber Onyx) is growing up with Taylor. To see them together with such caring for each other makes a heart sing. 

The original dogs, the imported samoyeds from the arctic expeditions, were dedicated and bonded to their human companions. There's something almost eerie in the half human-ness of samoyeds. Their bond with us is one of the heart, and if one stops to 'feel' it, that bond is with you every day, even when you and your sam are apart.
