In the News...2005

December 9, 2005
Even more fun at the shows today!

Summit (Hawkwind's Mont Blanc) goes Best of Breed from the classes, again over 5 specials, for his second major and on to a Group 4!

Since we'd hardly been out since the nationals, it was a fun weekend!

We also got news that Chi (Hawkwind's Dreams of Malachite) just got his WS points done. That is Working Samoyed, so he's officially:

Hawkwind's Dreams of Malachite NA NAJ HCT-S TDI WS

Congratulations, Jennifer!

December 8, 2005
St. Cloud. From the classes Topaz (Hawkwind's Egyptian Blue Topaz) goes Best of Breed for the crossover major and up over 5 specials! Biss, group placing, etc...Lovely win for her second major!

Summit (Hawkwind's Mont Blanc) was WD for his first points and first major!

Rocco (CH Hawkwind's Morrocan Marble) was BOS for a sweep of the ribbons for our kennel!

November 20, 2005
"Amber," Hawkwind's Golden Amber Onyx, got her first blue ribbon (with competition) today the Mpls. Kennel Club show. She seems to be stepping into realizing that this could be fun...but really....honestly....she probably won that class because Taylor gave her a kiss for luck! Wish we had pictures...next time! So we'll put up a picture of Taylor and Amber taken a few months ago...

Rumor is Hawkwind's Arctic Peridot got her first point today in Council Bluffs! Congratulations to new handler Nicole Busey!

We also got some pictures of Hawkwind's Crimson Kacee from the BWCA. This was taken while her family went swimming.

CH Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare takes Best of Breed under James Taylor at Sandusky KC in Ohio.

We're delighted to announce that one of the Citrine girls is now back home with us. This is the little girl everyone saw at the national on crate rest that we carried around so much. We've never received a puppy back before. This little girl came back to us with a partial traumatic torn cruciate ligament (a non genetic injury as stated by 3 vets,  paperwork available upon request), and needs lots of medical care and love. Here is a picture of her at 3 months. Welcome home, baby girl!

The Citrine litter is Cobalt's first litter. 3 of the 4 of Amethyst's first litter are already champions, with the 4th already sitting on both majors.

Here's her Pedigree:

            CH Wolf River's Eagle
CH Wolf River's Raptor Ridge ROMC
    CH Wolf River's Sand ROMC
CH Hawkwind's Cobalt Moonstone

Congratulations to Milan Dodig and his girl, Ariel! CH Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare took a Group One in Fort Wayne on Saturday!

October 31, 2005
Back from the national in Owensboro! Whooeee!

First time for our kennel to celebrate a national Grand Futurity winner! Futurity is 'the best of the best.' It requires nominating a litter BEFORE it is born, saying as a breeder you feel this will be a special litter. Then at 4 months the puppies are individually nominated. Then once per year the puppies are judged by a nominated judge by the top breeders in samoyeds.

Congratulations to Hawkwind's Mont Blanc (Summit), and owners Ed and Joelle Coutu. Was it worth all the wait to find the right baby for you?

There were myriad comments on him...mostly things like 'he's yummy!' 'Summit' won his class every time he stepped into the ring, and went on to national Reserve Winner's Dog, literally defeating over 100 boys. Then he went into the judges education where he was in head type and proportion discussions.

Thanks to Linda Kitzman for 'discovering' him in Kansas, the Land of Oz, and guiding him where he needed to go at the 2005 national. Congrats on your own girl going BISS as well!

Other stars in futurity: Ben & Deanna Salter's Jade daughter, Hawkwind's Wisteria Jade. "Sierra" won her futurity class and went on to Reserve Best Intersex for 9-12 month old puppies.  That girl flies!!

"Nikko," Hawkwind's Snowflake Obsidian, owned by Lynn Williams, won 4th in Futurity in 9-12 puppy dogs. Congrats! We got many nice comments on him as well. Thanks to Beth Riley for handing him so beautifully!

Also placing in both times she was in the ring was Nancy Featherstone's "Aster." Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna. She took 4th in Sweeps and 2nd in her regular class.

Ruth Ann Alrick's "Alaska," Hawkwind's Alaskan Jade, made the cut in her class. That is Sierra's sister!

Here's a beautiful shot of Hero; Hawkwind's Eternal Russian Opal owned by Karrieann Hallam, shown by Nancy Martin

.

Here's an up and coming baby, Achilles, co-owned by Krystal Pruin. Hawkwind's Black Diamond Achilles is out of Indigo and Siku, so Ariel's dam and Summit's sire.  We're planning a couple linebreedings of similar pedigree coming up this year. Achilles was 6 months and 2 days here!

Then to cap off a great national:  Milan's beautiful "Ariel" shown here in final competition for Best of Breed. Receiving on of the dozen Awards of Merit was CH Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare.

We had lots of other dogs in attendance, both in and out of the ring! Thanks to the show committee for such a great national!

October 16, 2005
Quick run down to Iowa shows. We decided not to put in any specials and to make a NEW special!

Congratulations to Rick and Mona Rauen on their new CHAMPION:

CH Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara

with 4 majors. Siku is the 3rd of his litter to finish....only ONE more to go! Your turn, Chi!

Siku is our kennel's FIFTH new champion this year!

October 8, 2005
Cobalt was BOB again today. Sapphire stayed home to dig holes.

Here's Hawkwind's Arctic Peridot at the Nebraska show!

October 8, 2005
Granite & Shadow & Pete

Granite is our Sullie/Shale daughter and Shadow is out of Madonna & Siku. Granite's coming to the national!

Today we went to the dog show....sort of local. Training again....Cobalt went BOB over a top 20 special, and WB/BOS was our little Sapphire! My gosh. Her first point. You don't expect that on babies this age! She was also Best Puppy in Breed and so we got more time to train....NEEDED training!

September 25, 2005
News tonight that Isis (Hawkwind's Justify My Love) just got her OFA rating .... another Excellent! Congratulations to Vanessa! That means our kennel record is more excellents than goods, and never anything less than that! Something to celebrate!

September 17, 2005
Rochester Dog Shows....Nikko (Hawkwind's Snowflake Obsidian) is discovering 'girls' and thinks they are just great!  Here that fluff of fur in the back is Nikko checking out Aster (Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna).

Puppy class in girls was better  behaved than I expected! Hawkwind's Golden Amber Onyx moved very nicely, and Hawkwind's Obsidian Electraglide actually kept her feet on the ground....a first!

Winner of the day (again) was Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna who went Winner's Bitch....

September 7, 2005
Finally got to the updates on the Achievement page...It's been a stunning year for 5 pt. majors!...along with a couple more new champions (4 this year), 2 new BOS, new Best in Sweeps, ... and realized that each of the Amethyst kids has a specialty major. Chi needs some singles to finish and Siku needs one point. Should have picked that up at Lake Elmo, but looks like that was not to be....BE MUCH more fun to put another major on that boy who sits at 14 points....

It's been an amazing year.

Here is Summit!! Hawkwind's Mont Blanc (Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara X CH Hawkwind's Like A Virgin BISS)

Pictures arrived from Chicagoland. Here is Topaz....beautiful reach and drive and perfect timing....When you run with this gal on the end of the leash it IS as if nothing is there! Totally glass-smooth movement. (photo credit Kenneth Reed Photography)

August 7, 2005
Picture of the June win of Siku's going BOB over specials. (Sign is wrong.)

August 6, 2005
Congratulations go Milan Dodig and family! They just received the OFA hip results back on his girl Ariel. (CH Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare.) We're celebrating another OFA Excellent, the top rating for hips! Cheers all around!

Another 90 degree day and kids splashing in the baby pool!! Casey is here, as her family is out of town and we'd much rather they were here than in a kennel. Casey is queen of the pool!!! Let's them all play when she isn't digging to China in it!!!

July 30, 2005
To follow up finishing a new Hawkwind champion with ANOTHER five point major (our kennel's FIFTH 5 point major this year!), CH Hawkwind's Emerald Jade takes a huge Best of Breed over 40+ Samoyeds under a Canadian judge. Very nice win over a couple of group winning specials!

Back home....Still have a couple babies to place in homes....please go to the nursery page and questionnaire if you're interested in a well bred samoyed puppy for pet or show! We had a couple homes just simply fall through in the end.  Yes, we're picky about homes and these are special kids to us....but can't keep them all! I have to say I'm glad the homes realized it was not the right time and respected our philosophy enough to let us know in time! Today they kept me laughing playing 'splash' in the baby pool! One goes in and runs through, then another to see who makes the biggest splash!

July 29, 2005
GMSF Milwaukee Specialty. Great weather, great trophies (this club has the best), and a great day for a dog show!

Onyx takes the huge open class and goes on to Winners Bitch to finish with a 5 point major to become:
CH Hawkwind's Palomino Onyx!

Countdown begins....Jade had 4 majors, CH #1 of that litter. Onyx with 3 majors is CH #2. Siku sits on 14 points and 4 majors.....and the last puppy in that litter, Chi, has 7 points and one major. We're hoping for an all champion litter and it's also 2 OFA Goods and 2 OFA Excellents.

July 5, 2005
Little Green Girl poses on a puppy bench...we're in the final stages of deciding on homes for these kids....isn't she adorable?  Don't kid yourself, she is a very outgoing gal! We were thrilled she stood still for a minute!  We're still not sure who she'll go to!!

June 25/26, 2005
CH Hawkwind's Cobalt Moonstone is Best of Breed both days at Hawkeye Kennel Club. Had a lovely weekend with the girls hunting gophers and repeatedly coming back with dirty faces and big grins.....Hot weekend, but fun! Congrats to owner Duane Jensen.

Aster, Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna is WB on Sunday. Congrats to owner Nancy Featherstone.

Coming soon....Hawkwind's Obsidian Electraglide....

June 24, 2005
Well, he did it again! Major from the classes by going Best of Breed  over 4 specials (recent BISS winning male, multi group placing bitch, etc.) for a 4th major! Perfect day for a dog show! 80 and sunny!

Short road to a championship from here. Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara refers to the kind of marble used to make Michaelangelo's David. The quarry it was mined at is Carrara.

Congrats to owners Rick and Mona Rauen.

June 23, 2005
98 degrees today! Yikes. Took Siku (Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara)  up to Cambridge for the Anoka shows. He did OK for a (still) untrained dog. He went WD, and then BOW and BOB over BISS specials. This was his 3rd major. Not much more to go...

June 20, 2005
Happy birthday to Ariel, Topaz and Cobalt!

June 18, 2005
Congratulations to Granite's sire, Sullie, on his BISS at Chicagoland! Our own CH Hawkwind's Emerald Jade was BOS. Beautiful weather and a lovely specialty!

June 10, 2005
Here's a cute pic of Granite (Hawkwind's Roserock Granite) playing with Shadow (Hawkwind's Whiter Shade of Pale). Granite is a Sullie daughter and Shadow is out of Madonna and Siku. This picture is just SOOOO Granite!!!

June 8, 2005
Happy 6 month Birthday to all the Onyx and Jade kids!!

New babies are playing in the yard while I mow the lawn. Then take time to play ON the lawnmower (not running) during a break.....Big storms last night and they play outside while the lightning and thunder rolls....all good socialization. Then we hightail it for the house as the downpour comes!!! Here is one of the bright eyed 6 week olds  inside after that playtime... She's a cutie!

May 29, 2005
Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare  wins WB at Greater Pittsburgh specialty at Trumbell County KC! Back to back 5 pt majors, which is just not a bad way to finish. Congrats to owners Milan & Tatjana Dodig!

Looks like it's official ... she's a new champion!

That is the THIRD Hawkwind Samoyed to take a 5 point specialty major this year!! Both Cobalt and Ariel (Indigo kids) finished with 4 or 5 majors, and on deck is Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara, who  has racked 2 majors already.

And we're having a good time playing with our 5 week old Indigo kids out of Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara...these kids should be special!!!

May 28, 2005
Butler County KC, Madeleine Fish awards a 5 pt major (and BOW) to Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare. Wow!

May 21,2005
SAMS specialty weekend! Hawkwind's Cobalt Moonstone (Cobalt)  adds a Championship to his name with a big 5 point major win to finish! That is his 4th major, with 3 in a row to finish! Congrats to owner Duane Jensen!

Cobalt is the 6th dog of ours to get a 5 point major....

Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna (Aster) wins her class and sweeps every time she was in the ring. Congrats to owner Nancy Featherstone!

Hawkwind's Mont Blanc (Summit) garners many wonderful comments along with TWO Best Opposite in Sweepstakes wins over the weekend! Congrats to owners Joelle and Ed Coutu! They are going to have a good time with that boy!

Thanks for all the cheering, help and support from all the puppy people who came! Great to see Amber, Nikko and Shiya over the weekend! Thanks to Julie, Andrea and Karrie for everything! What a weekend!

Indigo's babies out of Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara are almost a month old now...just as the first of Indigo's kids gets his Championship!

May 14, 2005
Ariel (Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare), an Indigo daughter, picks up her 3rd major in Tallmadge, OH at Ravenna KC! Judge Barbara Innes. Congrats to Milan & family!

May 7, 2005
Babies are 2 weeks old. Eyes are open and they can hear, so they make these adorable chortling sounds! Today we did toenails with a dremel for variety. Also moved them into different rooms; another small 'stress' event. Research shows that babies regularly experiencing 'mild' stress adjust to change much more readily throughout their lives.

May 6, 2005
This is Jennifer Sullivan's Chi! (Oh, and Madeleine's Knight in shining armor!)

May 1, 2005
Puppy toenails today....changing collars to larger ones....My, but they can grow in one week! Some individual pics on the Nursery page!

As Indigo kids crawl around the puppy box, here's the Indigo kids from the first breeding almost adults now!

These are the Apple Valley major wins from April. This is Cobalt.

And here is Sunday's BOB win over specials and BOS over specials: Cobalt and Topaz. Brother/sister wins!

Scroll down for Topaz's half sister. the blue girl, and below her find Topaz's (and Cobalt's) full sister, Ariel!

April 25, 2005
Lotsa news! We're been busy! Indigo babies have arrived and we're thrilled! Tired, but thrilled! 3 day old blue girl.

Congrats to Milan Dodig on his girl, Ariel's, second major (4 pts.) during the PVSC weekend! Here's a ringside shot. She is Hawkwind's Aqua di Mare. Ariel is an Indigo daughter from the Raptor Ridge breeding in 2003, sister to Topaz and Cobalt.

Steve Kuehn's Rocco (Hawkwind's Moroccan Marble) went RWD to a major in Iowa.

April 10, 2005
Some Hawkwind girls at the dog show.

Sunday proved to be an even better day than Saturday! Cobalt is WD/BOW/BOB over specials! 3rd major!  Topaz was WB for the major and then BOS (over Madonna!).

These Hawkwind littermates  took 3 of the 4 majors, with a RWB this weekend. Their dam, Indigo, is in whelp to the son of the sire that produced these kids (CH Wolf River's Raptor Ridge)....adding our Amethyst to the pedigree. We're very happy with these kids and looking forward to the upcoming ones!

April 9, 2005

Apple Valley shows. Kathleen Kanzler, a very well known Siberian judge, puts up Cobalt (Hawkwind's Cobalt Moonstone) for his 2nd major, WD/BOW. Madonna was BOS, and Topaz (Hawkwind's Egyptian Blue Topaz) was RWB to the major. Beautiful weather and a fun day!

March 27, 2005
Puppy update.....More official names!

Hawkwind's Sonny Blue Onyx
Hawkwind's Fyr N' Ice Alaskan Jade
Hawkwind's Dash of RubyRed Onyx
Hawkwind's Frosty Onyx Wine
Hawkwind's Jade Snow at Dawn
Hawkwind's Wisteria Jade
Hawkwind's Remington Jade

We have 3 girls we kept. Presently they are growing up. We just couldn't part with them so looking for show homes or special homes we can have co ownerships with and maybe even show the girls ourselves.  Such incredible movers! One is the best moving Samoyed I think I've ever seen, another has just killer sidegait, and a third some pedigree pieces I want...shoulder layons are a real problem in our breed in our opinion.

They are 16 weeks now.... Lovely leggy ladies!

Next announcement....see the Nursery page for this year's breedings!

Siku X Indigo: Pregnancy confirmed...Indigo will have puppies late in April!

Cobalt X Amethyst. Cobalt turns 2 this year. He's been prelimed GOOD, passed his eye exams, so we don't expect a big problem with his hip clearances.....

Both of these breedings will produce very pretty puppies, that can MOVE! Should be gorgeous head type on both our 2005 litters!

March 26, 2005
Rocco is on a streak of wins going WD again, looking for those majors now! Pic....scroll down.

March 25, 2005

February 7, 2005
Finally home from the Double Exposure specialties in Fond du Lac! What an incredibly well run show! Even down to the details of making sure I was parked in easy access due to....a foot broken in 2 places. Hard not to show, but thank you to all those who took my dogs into the rings! You know who you are!

Having 2 boys and 3 girls to show, I put Cobalt (Hawkwind's Cobalt Moonstone) in Ambred, which he won both days (with competition).

Topaz (Hawkwind's Egyptian Blue Topaz) went all the way to 2nd in a large and stunning Open bitch class on Sunday. The judge commented she'd have taken the class if she had hair... (The bitches all around this weekend were STUNNING! In quality this entry rivaled the national.)

Baby Aster (Hawkwind's Alabaster Madonna) won all of her classes (with competition), both in sweeps and the regular classes.

But it's Aster's parents who shined this weekend!  Her dam, Madonna (CH Hawkwind's Like A Virgin BISS) was Best of Opposite Sex on Saturday at the GMSF Specialty over a nice group of bitch specials.

On Sunday, her sire (Siku...see photo below), Hawkwind's Alabaster Carrara, went Best of Winners for a 5pt. major! Since the national (where he placed 2nd) he has only been out twice; picking up a 3 p. major in St. Cloud and now a 5 pt. specialty major! Nice going!

It was fun bringing all those lovely trophies back for the owners!

Congratulations to Wolf River for a wonderful weekend! Our cousins (and Cobalt, Topaz, and Siku's half sister) took the breed BOTH days!

Congrats to Anita on Buckley's win to become CH Wolf River's Diamond with a Ruff BISS!

Congrats to Kay for her girl's win to become:
CH Wolf River's Moonrise BISS.

January 29, 2005
For those of you who never believe me when I say this: Here is Amethyst watching TV in the puppy room. She will sit like this for hours and gets annoyed if you get in front of her view. She has her favorite shows....Wolves at our Door, National Geographic Wolf special...But her favorite is Iron Will. She loves the race scenes. The white dog is her "hero." She also likes cartoons. Here she is watching a sports competition.

January 22, 2005
Madonna is Best of Breed at Des Moines. Hawkwind's Moroccan Marble goes WD/BOW/BOS. Congratulations to Chi on his NA title with a second place!! He's now Hawkwind's Dreams of Malachite NA NAJ!

It worked for ET....
